I met this bird on Alcatraz island. Actually, I first heard him before I spotted him. He was hulking along a beam next to the boats. He was hunched over and with every step he took he would make a long “harrumph” kind of sound as he lurched forward. I nicknamed him the “Peter Lorre bird” because he reminded me of one of those sneaky dark character from 40s movies as he snuck along. I wanted to paint every detail of this birds amazing feet and eyes!
